Took the front prop shaft of me 90 due to some clunking noises, the rear UJ is fooked, so bought 2 replacements whilst it's off.

thing is i ain't got a bench vice to remove and fit the new ones in, any ideas what else i could use? ( removed the old ones already )

I went out to a disco a couple of daya ago. The drivers 'mate' had fitted 2 new U/J's using just a hammer. The front one had lost the cap and it had disintegrated. As said by G-man don't forget to use sockets if yer resorting to using a hammer.

First time I did a UJ I used a hammer and sockets - hit it too hard and all the needle rollers fell out!

I did try the hammer and socket idea, but the needles were falling out all over the place and i ended up losing 2 which caused no end of problems and unfortunately i didn't have any grease to pack the things in with.

you must stick em up with copper slip then drift them in with the exact size socket to match outer shell.thats the easy cheapest way.no need to wack em to bits if you clean and slip all areas to a polish finish.
I know a Polish bird, she is both cheap and easy........................ooops this isn't "anythin goes"

i did my front prop uj's this week i used a sash clamp to push them in, might work using a farm jack in clamping mode
