Jus put a replacement turbo on my car, cos the old one was knackered.

Driving (test drive) last night, noticed that at tickover the oil lights flickered with the engine.

Jus moved the car now, oil light wont go out.

Sounds very rattly, like theres no oil in it, so i dnt think its the switch. Any thoughts? Pump? Do these ever fail?

Anyone got a stripped down piccy of these somewhere that i can look at?

How easy to change? :(

change the oil pump pressure switch somtimes they can fail somthing to do with th pressure relief valve sticking open. Mine went on my Na before when replaced it was good again so I sold it and fitted a 200tdi Jai

Also probably not of interest but my old Na did loose oil pressure and blow up this was somone because before me fitted the wrong oil pump gear the spigot was about 5mm smaller that the hole in the gear (at a guess it was a part from an old 3mb engine oil pump gear in a later pump) I have some video of us moving it after taking it apart and ****ing ourselves. This was fitted for several years before any signs of problems and just goes to show how hardfy these old engines are. P.s I will never buy a second hand thing from the supplier of the engine and gearbox. Gearbox turned out to have no teeth on reverse gear either. So I avoid the company like mad. Jai

Logic tells me, that if there's no pressure and you are not losing oil after replacing a knackered turbo:
1) Is it possible that there's a pressure relief valve stuck open here, bypassing the oil back to the sump?

2) The pump failed before and that's what screwed your turbo as melt down happens fast with oil starvation? Oil starvation... see option one.

Just an idea. Comments Jai / CharlseY et al?

Erm big end shells looked spot on (no oil starvation marks)

There was part of an oil seal spring, but i rekon thats been in there a while. There were also some bits of swarf etc, but nothing that i wouldn't have expected from a turbo failure.

Nothing untoward otherwise.

Strainer was clear too.

Ahhv FIXED IT!!!

Took the oil pressure relief valve out, removed the bit of swarf outta the hole, the one that was jamming it open

Put back together, fresh oil, fresh filter, and Roberts your Mothers Brother! Goes like a beast, am well happy.

Also, ive now got a specially modified tool for the removal of your oil pressure relief valve in your 300TDi :)
