No Keys

Hi All, I am bibbing on a 1999 range rover p38. it is a finance snatch back. There are no keys with it so how could I get into it and start it.

With difficulty

If I could just get into it to put it on a trailer would help. I could sort the rest out when i get it home.

How about breaking the small rear window then lifting the door button

Good Idea but only if desperate, I could soon get another one off ebay.

Speak to your local friendly AA or RAC technician - they were all car thieves in their youth

Just rang a locksmith near were the car is and he said he would sort it out for £150.

Beware that might be a price for a normal, ie ford or vauxhall motor but not necessarily for a P38

If it's superlocked you won't be able to pull the button up!

I would tread warily on this - it's an old vehicle to be subject to a snatch-back. Unless you're planning to break it questions like why the re-possession, why no keys, has it got a V5c & (ask yourself) how has it been treated ?

As new keys have to be ordered from Germany through a main stealer ready codes to the car via vin no, I would be very couscous unless it was very very cheep i.e. give away

I agree, I'd have to be seeing sub 500 notes kind of money to even consider that unless it was for breaking.

if its not super locked,wedge top of door,use metal coat hanger,bend a ring on end,slide over button and pull up,or slide it down side of door and hook up,

The guy who said he could do the lock for me sounds as that he knows what he has to do, I told him it was a Range Rover P38.
I was hoping to use it as a runaround and keep my other for best. It is to good a condition to scrap but I will use it for spares if I can't get it going.

+1 - 18 years old and on finance ??? doesn't ring true to me at all - have you HPI'd it ? - If it is a snatch back, then the PO would probably have superlocked just for the buggeration value ...

+1 - And new keys are not cheap from the main stealer !! Extreme couscous required IMHO..

The tricks of the trade, Advertise the car with no keys & the potential buyers can't start it up or check anything.
The vehicle may have many problems, throw the keys away & it only has one problem.

Agree. Sounds like logbook loan and those f*ckers are not to be trusted. See the Watchdog program on it if it is still available anywhere. They are total c*nts.

Only way to get through alarm system is a new key from the dealer. £160 or thereabouts.

If superlocked you're in a world of pain. My father locked himself out of his car once, stood outside it for 6 hours in the pouring rain waiting for the AA. When the guy finally tuned up he took one look at it and then smashed the back window in and then popped the lock. My father hit the roof. Apart from anything else he could have walked home and back for the spare key in 2 hours.

Once in you will have to put transmission box in neutral (fuse 11?) and then winch it only a trailer.

The car was not on finance but he owed money for other things and the bailiff gave it to the garage who they deal with to sell it. It looks like he has looked after it with lots of extras to make it look smart. The interior is very good same colour as mine except mine have red piping. As you say he has locked it to stop them taking it. They have managed to get the doors open, but I still need the keys. I got it for £430, which is not bad considering the wheels and tyres are great. I think it is well worth the money even if I keep it for spares. It has been HPI checked so thats ok. Trying to find someone to collect it for me on a trailer.
