This could lead to a shortage of Guatemalan dwarf french beans or mexican avocados.
I seem to be the only person really worried about the seriousness of the situation.
or am I?

The best of it is my boss, her second-in-command and third are all stuck in Spain, Tenerife and America respectively .. ;) We also have two LSA's off, one of whom was on a cruise, the ship came back and because there were no passengers they took them all back on the ship again!

I say long live the volcano ... it shows the awesome power we have over nature ...

A daft tree-hugger at work suggested it was due to 'climate change'....I asked him for proof that dinosaurs had indeed developed the internal combustion engine leading to the inevitable apocalypse which will befall mankind as we are evil planet killers..

Wonder what fossil fuels the raptor used to warm their seaside cottages?

oh the dinos defo died of climate change, in conditions similar to this. But that just proves it aint caused by me v8

I think it's pretty cool... it's like in 28 days later when the UK gets infected by zombies and we're quarantined from the rest of the world...

Knew it was all a load of crap and an overreaction as soon as it happened. So now they are running test flights and finding nothing wrong. No surprise in this house

People affected are going to be really ****ed to find it was all for nothing :D

you'd not have said that if a plane landed on your head

you'd have no head for a start

Having spent years training as an aircraft engineer I would absolutely no hesitation about flying in these conditions.

The examples the authorities have been quoting to justify the stance all took place when an aircraft flew through extremely dense ash columns easily visible to the naked eye and I also know they were bl**dy stupid to do so. The only reason I can come up with why they did was it was at night.

I would lay odds on the air around desert based airfields such all those in the middle east are just as contaminated with abrasive dust. There is a standard procedure for water washing turbine engines and all the larger ones have inspection ports to insert scopes to examine blades. Only around 20-30% of the air entering a modern gas turbine is used in the flames, the rest controls the burn, cools the exhaust gases and provide a sound absorbing envelope.

It is useful to bring home our dependance on air travel as did 9/11 but this whole situation is a complete farce. The only change that was needed was to ban the northern cross atlantic route and make every flight go out via the Shannon beacon which is how they used to go anyway.

fortunately it's not you making a decision that COULD cost 1000s of lives - other than some airline financial bods there isn't a wealth of pressure from suitably qualified peeps who are calling for it to be lifted

better safe than dead .......

:hijacked:
My parents are supposed to fly home from Lanzarote next Sunday.I dont know if I could walk up into a plane without some hesitation.I hope they're handing out parachutes.
I really like your sig pic but it would be even better a little to the left:D
