newbie question about starter motor

Hello,

I am new the landyzone and wondered if anyone could help on a fairly simple question.

Is the starter motor the same on a 300tdi as a 200tdi discovery engine?

I have a defender with a 200tdi conversion and the local scrap yard only have a 300tdi starter, is it the same unit?

It should be, and would be a better motor as well, but take your old one down with you and do a mechanical comparison, mainly the fixing holes and the distance from the front of the fixing flange to the back of the starter pinion. The number of pinion teeth should also be the same.

Update... as Peter said after a good comparison check between the two units of the 200tdi and 300tdi it did match and starts the engine very well. Thank you for you help much appreciated. Caddy.
