New wheels and tyres fit to where?

Hi

I have existing wheels and Cooper Discoverer STT tyres. Tyres are 1/2 worn in terms of tread about 3/4 worn in terms of expiry date. I want to match the same wheels and tyres on my Sankey - but of course I will have to get STT Pros if I get same tyres.

Do I just put new tyres on the trailer. Do I swap two of the existing wheels and tyres onto the trailer and fit the new ones on the defender. If so front or rear axle? Or is there a similar mud snow tyre that is cheaper than STT Pro to put on trailer? Thanks

The trailer is very unlikely to wear out even half worn tyres unless you do a hell of a mileage. There is no time limit on tyres in the UK, at least not yet.
Fit your most worn on the trailer. Fit new pair to either axle on the Landy.

thanks - that was my thinking really. I would guess steering and drive would make Fr Axle best candidate for new ones?
 
I do a fair bit of steep ground off road driving [ working farm ] and like to have the best grip on the rear, it's where the weight goes on steep climbs.
For general use I recon on the front as you suggest but it is much of a muchness.

i did exactly the same but with Michelin xzl- I out 2 new on the rear of the 90, and the part worn the tyres place fitted onto the trailer.

I chose rear simply because the fronts were the best of the 4 on the 90
 
I would say put the new tyres on the trailer.
You say the current part worn are 3/4 worn in expiry date. You wont wear them out on the trailer, so they will be cracking before they wear out. So you wont get full mileage out of them.
New on trailer, wear out the old ones on the car.
Then when you get new for the car, you could choose to wear the older ones out on the car.

New tyres should be fitted on the rear of vehicle, sales on tyres ie shelf life after 5 years should
not be sold, tyres 10 years old are not permitted on steering axles of goods vehicles from feb 2021
iirc tyres that are 5-7 years should be inspected regularly as this is the life span before they start to
break down. :)

Yup id fit the worn ones onto the trailer too.
