I have just aquired a land rover turbo diesel swb on an F plate I bought the vehicle for spares. the car has had the chassis number ground off no number plates no v5 or any id at all the id plate has also been removed form the pedal box.
However as the car is too good to break i was wondering if anyone had any ideas about getting the vehicle re registered.
I have put acetone on the chassis number and got all bar two of the numbers from the chassis, I know the number plate is F??? ?WR and I know the name and address of one of the former keepers but he is ex directory I have written to him but nothing back yet. The dvla dont want to know without a full reg no,
Anyone got any idea thanks

i'd also go to the local cop shop and ask them to help out-mind you if it turns out your motors been pinched your gonna end up losing out like the original owner-can't see any reason why all id would be away unless it was stolen

You wanna bet that, if you have bought it, and was sold as, spares only vehicle, the previous owner has declared it scrapped and that’s why he took all ID off it?

Or could have been a stolen vehicle

One has to ask why these things were done..

I would be very careful what you post, as buying in the knowledge that the id has been tampered with/hidden/deleted is a very dodgey thing to do..

Just out of curiosity...how much did you pay and where was it advertised?
 
I can only think of 2 reasons why that was done:

1. The ID has been transferred to a stolen Land Rover to make a 'ringer', which has probably been sold on
2. The vehicle you have, is stolen.

Let us know if you can think up any non-dodgy reasons, though.
 
As long as the tags are being stamped on production of a v5 i think its ok (a bit like numberplates)...however it is open to severe abuse in the wrong hands...doesnt take much to add a chassis number onto a front leg either...and bingo bongo..ring ring...oh, is that the telephone?
 
The difficult bit is finding a matching set of chassis number and registration plate, which 1) match each other, and 2) approximately match the car its applied to. Beware, lads, who post pics of their car with the number plate on them, because you've just supplied half the info.....

This is why you should only ever show the v5 after agreeing a sale...and never let it out of your sight in these days of phones with cameras...
 
I can't think of a single reason why anyone would remove all the ID from a vehicle if it wasn't nicked. I guarantee that if you get the plod round to have a look they'll take it off you. Hope you didn't pay much for it.
 
Err. looks like to original OP clearly bought a dodgy Landy that's had its ID wiped out. As such I think he is supporting the trade of stolen vehicles and does'nt give a **** because it was cheep:mad: For ****s sake, why are you all being so polite. Sounds **** to me. Hope it was not originally one of our much loved Landys. Probably was someones:mad:

If I find a fully kitted up Landy and strip all the bits off it with me eyes closed is that ok by everyone then:confused:

One of the former keepers rang me who I wrote too and told me reg number. Wrote to DVLA turns out The gentleman i bought it off used the ID to re-do his write off. DVLA got the log book back off him and gave it to me in my name.
Vehicle is now undergoing a restoration and will be back on the road legally later in the summer
If anyone wants my advice always speak and write to the DVLA as they are brilliant
