Well I have given in to the inner petrol head (again)
I have bought another D1 V8 its a 1999 ES manual and has LPG.
I sold off the Blue beast last year and just knew the 300 TDI would not come up to the mark.
It will be up for sale soon.
Bit I am torn, you see the 300 is in such good condition as in it does not have wet front floor, roof liner perfect and the V8 has wet front floors and sagging liner but I think what will turn me is the growl from the V8 and its clean on LPG where as the 300 is a dirty beast of a diesel.
V8 needs a good clean, covered in moss in places
Pics of the new one soon.

From what I'm reading you have done this all before, but consider............
Your V8 chews up twice the amount of fuel that the Tdi will, maybe not so bad on lpg, is lpg really cheap there?
The extra performance can just get you into trouble on the road with the cops.
I'd wager the Tdi will go anywhere off road that the V8 will.
And if its "sound" you want, auto parts stores sell a device that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter socket to make your Tdi sound like a Ferrari, or anything you like.
But if you are still young enough to get a "buzz" from owning a V8, good on ya, you get "old" and more practial soon enough, that's what Tdi's were made for.

LPG 56p a litre so you can afford to run a V8.
Well I am keeping the V8, gave it a good wash today, no idea last time it was washed properly, still needs a machine polish.
The wet floor on the drivers side is a wiring loom grommet so out with the silicone.
I have been starting it a few times and its behaving its self so far.
I connected ECU mate and no fault codes came up but stepper needs adjusting,I will pull out the temp sensor and check its working OK.
New 'un' needs a complete front bumper, I have a spare, next job to do and get rid of the stick on number plate.
Question; how do I disable the key left in ignition beeper - it is doing my head in!
looks like its behind fuse board under steering wheel, its a 1999 D1 XS

Cheers

I have driven a D1 V8 and a D2 TD5 with remap. I think the tractor engined car was quicker

The "beeper" is built into the multifunction unit and is linked to the ignition switch by a single white wire, just cut the wire... simples.
Also just to let u know that production of the D1 ceased in mid 1998 with the introduction of the 1999MY D2 therefore u don't have a 1999MY D1 but a D1 registered in 1999. :)

Discool, thanks for the beeper info, which white wire is it - there are 3.
would it be a white wire coming out of the infernal box behind fuse box?
This one was registered June 99 must be one of the last registered?

To stop the "key in ignition beeper" in my Tdi I just put an insulating fibre washer under the screw in my drivers door courtesy light switch, job done and easily reversible, but not sure if different for your spec D1.
Not a bad looking unit Ian, and in my favourite colour, should be a great vehicle, despite what I said in my last post I love the Rover V8, had an RRC for many years on lpg and loved it every minute. Unfortunately these days more time than money, hence the Tdi still does the job but not as exciting in some ways. Enjoy the V8.

Discool, No more key in ignition beeper, many thanks.
I am warming more towards the V8 now.
I just happened to mention on facebook that I was thinking about selling the 300 tdi, well its sold without advertising it, taking some pics for the buyer I have seen how good condition the 300 is in, Wish I could keep them both but I cannot.
