Just to introduce myself im David and live in Queensland Australia and own a seriesIII short wheelbase landy.
I have used this vehicle when im travelling the deserts of Australiaand have done over the last 20 years.
i have travelled the canning stock route ,gunbarrel highway,birdsville track,oodnadatta track,Strezlekie track,French line ,rig roads,finke track,Chambers Pillar,the old Ghan rail track.Tanami track and cape york penisular.
The modification that i have carried out on the vehicle are a brake servo has been fitted also a salisbury rear axle (after breaking 2 half shafts and differential planet gears on live sand hills)also it is canverted to run on dual fuel LPG and petrol it still has the original engineand the head has been fitted with stellite valve seats to prevent valve ware for unleaded and gas.It is also fitted with an overdrive.
My first land rover was a 1966 ex army series 2a which i drove from england to Cape town across africa in 1972.
I have driven across russia to Vladivostock but not in a land rover and also across USA canada and alaska not in a land rover.
At the moment i am looking to go back to england and get a second hand range rover to cross the silk road route to china and a few other destinations.
