OK, so my trip to pick up my first landie started at 5.30am this morning in Belfast. Simple arrangement. Fly to London City, meet seller in Woolwich, drive up to Derbyshire at 50mph for curry with the lads (used to live there).

As they say no plan survives contact with the enemy...in this case the enemy was FOG. All London airports closed. Took them 2hrs before they finally decided to divert to Southampton. So instead of starting journey north at 9.30 I won't be leaving London until 5pm. I reckon 6-7 hours at 50mph. Not ideal...will miss the curry. Might make last orders.

Anyway, less of the whinging I hear you shout! I have bought a 1975 2.2 petrol '88. Bought off ebay last week. Has had plenty of work done recently and has MOT until Nov. 17. Just needs some paint...he says optimistically!

Hasn't done more than 50 miles in the last 4 years so there could be all sorts of adventures yet to come today before I arrive in Whaley Bridge.

So, any advice on how to improve my chances of getting there in one piece (me and the Landie)?

Will post some photos when I have better Internet.

Welcome aboard !!

You're a brave soul! I guess the best, if rather tongue in cheek advice for arriving safely in Whaley from Woolich in a series, would be ..... not to drive it!! :D ( Sorry, couldn't resist!!).

I think I'd just take my time, and keep checking as much as you can en-route.

Presume you are making decent progress now though ??:)

Best of luck with the journey - big thumbs up from me for quite a leap of faith :)
