Collected the new Rangey at the weekend - 1991 3.9EFI Vogue (see pictures). She has a 2" lift, steering guard, diff guards, 15" steels and insa turbo remoulds, and a raised intake. I bought her as an off-roader, and am in the process of checking all the mods the previous owner has done. So far, they seem pretty good.
He reckons its a year since a full service, so I will start by putting in a filter kit, change engine, gearbox and diff oils along with a plug check and change.
She runs great, except for an irritating idle problem. Only happens when she's been standing idling for 10 minutes, not just after the engine is hot, so I am guessing its happening when she's hot under the bonnet. She idles beautifully, but then revs drop, she coughs and recovers - unless there's any extra load in which case she will conk out.
Could fitting the raised intake bugger up the EFI?
Been searching the forum and plan to do the following:
1. Check all air pipes and connections for loose joints/leaks
2. Disconnect battery and reset base idle
3. Replace coolant temperature sensor, air temperature sensor
4. Check throttle position sensor
5. Check leads and dizzy (they are both new and very clean)
6. Check all connector plugs for cracks/corrosion/wear
7. Panic
Any thoughts very welcome...
