The new mot regulations state that a diesel will fail if there is any visible smoke. I take it this is when the car has been running for a wee while, and not when just started?
 
You folks are on the same standard as we have been in NI for about 10 years now.

Honestly it's more to do with pure black smoke to indicate boost leaks etc
 
Must be as I've never owned any vehicle in my life which doesn't puff a little smoke when it's been idling for a few mins and then you blip the throttle.
We hope it's clear and not up to the testers discretion which would banish most older cars, or is that their cunning plan ?
