Disco 2 New key programmed to BCU, but no alarm

So I got my new Nanocom and then waited for the secondhand key fob to arrive to try it out.
Took a couple of goes but what a doddle it was.
I now have a spare key for my disco, well I will once the new blade is cut tomorrow.
What I have noticed though is that when I open the doors with just the key the indicators flash and the red light on the dash goes berserk but there is no horn noise.
Should there be and how do I correct it?

Errr..... its in the Nanocom menus.

The horn must sound only if you lock with the fob and a door or bonnet is opened... provided the misslock warning is enabled, no horn should sound if everything is OK especially not on unlock command, that's how the D2 is

In addition to Fery's reply, the horn also sounds if you lock it with the key and a door etc is open. I know this because it happens when I leave the rear door open (and secured!) for ventilation for the dogs

Or even if you lock it with the fob. It's called a mislock warning.

I think the others are confused and think you are trying to lock the car.

But you say open using the key, try entering "always" in the alarm setting using the nanocom and then try, but if the settings are std the alarm should be sounding when you unlock using the key and open the door.

I know its not likely to be the same, but on the P38 you can set several alarm and locking/security options with the Nanocom.
ALARM
• Immobilizer: Turns on the passive (self) immobilize function in markets which use it.
• Lazy locking: Changes the situations in which lazy locking is allowed.
• 1 touch: This specifies which windows have the one touch functionality.
• Arm/disarm: Changes the method of visual notification of alarm arming and disarming.
• Alarm: The alarm can be either enabled or disabled if required. Disabling the alarm prevents the alarm from arming and stops all audible and visual activity whenever the vehicle is locked or unlocked. It does not affect the immobilization.
• Mislock: Changes the method of notification of error on alarm arming between using the interior light or the alarm sounder.
• Alarm noise: Different markets have different options of alarm sounding when the alarm is activated / triggered.
• Sounder: Different markets have different options of alarm sounders fitted that require different outputs from the BECM to operate. This allows the correct selection.
• Alarm lights: This changes the method of visual output from the BECM used for the alarm activated / triggered.
• Key warning: When enabled, the warning gong will sound continuously whilst the keys are in the ignition and the ignition is turned off.
• EKA: For the markets that do not use the Emergency Key Access (EKA) system.
I would imagine that the online documentation for the NanoCOM for your specific vehicle will have similar guidance.

OK I'm looking through Nanocom to see where these things are setup.
A colleague in work uses his key to open and close doors and start the vehicle. His fob does nothing, so there is probably a feature for this.

Yes and I'm sure i'll get there in the end but I wondered whether I needed to.
If you use the key lock only, on my disco anyway, the hazards flash continuously and the red light on the dash does a wobbler.
Now is that normal or is it the alarm without sound?

OK so you say if your fob failed and you used the key it should alarm. (noise as well)
This I presume is unless you use the EKA code with the key, which I dont have at the moment.

OK guys its all clear now. Sorry for being a numpty, i've had a tough week, i've read neilly's thread "handy buying / alarm info" and now understand what I am trying to achieve.

You have a nanocom, no reason to not have the EKA code, you can even rewrite it to an easy to remember number.
