My TD5 110 suffered from lack of fuel and possibly over use of fuel additive which caused the tank sludge to loosen and get sucked up into the filter which did its job well. Until it was so clogged the engine started to struggle. It wouldn't go over a quite low rpm until one day it stopped completely. Moral of that story is don't let the fuel run down low and don't drive when there is an obvious problem. Anyway, I took it to the garage and they changed the fuel filter, dropper the tank out with about 3/4 tank of diesel in it (rather them than me) completely washed it out and changed the fuel pump. Now it runs but the pump seems to be always on and pumping. I have gone through the purge routine several times and even after driving it switching it off and then turn the ignition to position 2 immediately back on again the pump runs continuously and is quite loud. It doesn't sound like air in the system i.e. no gurgling or screeching. It drives well but the pump noise is a concern. Any ideas would be very welcome.

pump does run all the time engine is running, you could replace air bleed valve in rear outer connector on filter head ,it can depend on pump fitted a lot of none genuine are poor and either fail or perform badly

Hi James, I understand the pump runs all the time when the engine is running. This one runs all the time when just the ignition is on. Dave

Hi @trafalgar169

If you turn ignition on to pos 2 the pump should run for 30 secs, it should turn off after that. this is normal operation for the pump.
Not sure why you posted in the 19J 2,5TD section tho for a TD5 issue................:oops:

Cheers

Hi Neilly, Thanks for your reply. It does run continuously and would probably flatten the battery if I left it on. I'm guessing it might be that the air bleed return valve in the filter head might be clogged. I will check this out before going any further. I didn't realise I was in the wrong area sorry :(

Hi @trafalgar169

Have you checked the fuel pump relay to make sure it is not faulty and staying in the energised position?

Even if there is air in the system the pump should turn off after 30 secs .

Cheers
