I worked on LR many moons ago. Due to weather conditions over the last few years I decided to buy a 4x4 but it had to be user friendly for the family. I couldnt run to a Range rover as a 3rd vehicle. And so having had several BMWs
I plumbed for a Freelander TD4.
I found one that had low mileage, full service history(specialist), and a nice interior.
Since I bought it, I have changed the VCU (which hadnt been changed), I cleaned out the EGV, which had never been looked at, the 90 degree hose off the EGV. I am changing the water pump and thermostat this weekend. I doubt the PCV has ever been looked at so thats the next job.
Moral of the story. If you dont understand what you are buying, it could be a very expensive learning curve.
The TD4 engine is good for 200k miles if looked after correctly as would be the transmission.
The Freelander is not a Range Rover but is a more than capable 4X4 if maintained correctly.
