So it looks like my 2010 Puma dropped a valve. Just waiting on my mechanic to confirm the damage and take it from there. My question is how much would a potential rebuild cost and would I be better looking at buying a re conditioned one or a new one all together. Not sure what the damage is yet but I'm preparing for the worst.

Several on ebay. you can get a delivery mileage engine from a company in plymouth (wildcat auto on ebay), I recall they do v8 conversions on new defenders and sell off the engines and gear boxes at sensible prices. But they will be 2.2 litre rather than the 2.4 in your defender, so you would need to check if the management system would still work ok.

If its just a valve why would you need a new engine ? Top end off a Transit would be cheaper

I've no idea to be honest if thats the cheaper option then would go with that. Not sure of the full extent of the damage yet so will report back once I know.
