Disco 1 New Discovery next week

Pushed the boat out and got myself a low mileage Discovery 300 TDI 1994 77,000 miles, cam belt done, serviced, new tyres and not bad condition, needs one rear body mount for next MOT easy job as just done it on the V8 beast.
Got this one so I can take my time with the V8.

77,000 miles is an extraordinarily low mileage for a 1994 vehicle, whatever the make. My Disco 2 is 10 years later (2004) and classed as low mileage at 78,500 or so.

I have done the checks and all seems fine, I looked at loads - I mean loads and the MOT history is a great tool to see if people are telling white lies.
Its in pretty good nick for its age.

I have my new Discovery sitting on the drive yeah
Fixed headlamp - loose connector, rear tail lamp bulb replaced, horn was not working read a post by Paul D and its now fixed, new badge for steering wheel centre ordered.
Its had a full service, cambelt done, new water pump 6 months ago and its only done 1000 miles since.
It drives well, holds a straight line, brakes are good no pulling to one side.

Gearbox or transfer box is whining - not hugely loud, worn or sound proofing missing?
Gear selector not centering so i'll get a new bias plate and springs ordered.
2nd gear crunches from 1st - ok if I take my time.

no handbook or wallet and no other service history with the discovery - shame really
radio not working - its switching on and getting a cracking in the speakers but the display not tuning in, its probably coded and locked out; again a shame as its the original radio - anyone any ideas how to save it?
The reversing lamps come on then go out - is this a bad contact or a duff sensor/connector?

Radio should say 'CODE' on the display (or usually do) if no code entered, and I'd have thought it would be muted too. Sounds like it has other issues.

The headunit would or should display CODE or something similar if a code was required or WAIT if an incorrect code has been entered, if the display is showing the frequencys then a Code isn't required (it was optional) so it could be something simples as a detached antenna feed. The best thing to do is replace it, if original I suspect its a Philips unit so not the best of units

Finally, it seems like an iffy connection doesn't it, maybe at the switch but could be a faulty switch, so some testing to do there.

Looks like the unit is goosed as there is no movement on the screen no code or wait,
it is showing what looks like a frequency or time but its locked and no way its moving and no sound.
if they are not the best i'll take the modern one out of the V8 and use that one,
I need a new arial so i'll buy a new 1 for the wing.

RAVE for the Discovery 1, the 300tdi contains all the information you're likely to need and some you'll probably never need. It can be downloaded from here:- http://www.green-oval.com/data/lr/rave03.iso
It contains electrical circuit diagrams, workshop manual, Owner's Handbooks, etc. The download is free but it is a fairly large file which might take quite some time to download.

Been in a small shunt at the back.
Needs the door seals taken off and sorting out - i'm sure I have seen a video somewhere how to sort these out.
something missing on rear cross member I think?
Footwell is great only the starting of some rust on top of one.
Mud flaps missing, ill put a complete fitting kit on.
Front bumper splitter has been cut off

Radio out of the V8 fitted with one of those in cabin aerial, I have music again and a CD player!
Rear door seal needed as i am getting exhaust fumes in cabin under acceleration,
Still need a centre console - I would like to replace this while I do the bias plate - anyone got a grey manual centre console?
