New Bushes?

I am changing my suspension, Shocks Springs etc. Should I change my bushes as well?
I don't know if or when they would have been changed before

IF so what type, poly or rubber ?

I am having genuine defender shocks and springs.

I do not have a press!

Hi mate! Do you mean you are replacing all the bushes i.e panhard rod/trailing arms rear a frame etc, or just shock bushes?

If you are replacing the shocks they virtually always come with new bushes in them. These will (more than likely) be standard bushes.

If you are replacing the whole lot, then its personal preference. Standard bushes are fine, but when old can be a pain the the arse to remove. I got a kit from Polybush (based in Wrexham) because if heard good things about them, and liked the colour! I went for orange, medium flexibilty ones. The ride was transformed (anything wold be better than 15 yr old bushes).

I would advise against buying really cheap poly bushes though, i bought some for a rangie and they felt very soft and i had to trim some Dow with a hacksaw to get them to fit the front radius arms properly! Not good!

I was thinking the whole lot dunno about getting the harder types back in like the panhard as I believe you need a press.

Rimmerbros has a genuine set for 360£ or a aftermarket rubber set for 50£!

You don't necessarily need a press, a good vice and some varying different diameter tube works well.

At that price id say have a look a polybush. They are so so easy to put together, and they do kits which are great! I went for the orange ' Dynamic', which I guess are similar to standard with a bit more flex.

Great people to deal with to!

I put Superpro bushes on mine about four years ago and they're still going strong. They're towards the expensive end of the polybush market, but they seem good so far. There are various ways of getting the old ones out without a press.Some people drill and cut through the rubber and then hacksaw the outer jacket. Sometimes it is possible to hammer a thin chisel or screwdriver you don't mind messing up between the outer jacket and the hole in the suspension arm to collapse the bush a little to allow it to come out.

While you've got your suspension apart, you might as well replace the top ball joint on the rear suspension. And get some new ball joints for the steering linkages too as they don't cost very much and are worth doing. New nuts and bolts are a good idea too, as they are often very rusty and need to be split or chiselled off.
