All my experience up to now has been with Series Landies. Have now ventured into tomorrow and bought a 2004 TD5 Defender XS. I am now trying to get to grips with all the electronics. It seems that having some form of device/computer to access/clear fault codes, etc. is needed. Also quite strange to be able to accelerate up hills !

As I will be taking it to Africa and spending 6 months doing a cicular route of Southern Africa, this will be doubly important as I will need to be able to sort things out as needed. Mechanical issues is fine-just the electronics seem a bit daunting. Have searched forum and most seem to recommend nanocom. Autocom CDP also mentioned. Cost is not really an issue, but obviously don't want to waste money on unnecessary bells and whistles.

My question is- which is easiest for a novice to deal with, and also better for remote( no help available ) issues?

Nanocom is probably the easiest, and seems to be what most TD5 owners use. I have had one since November having previously been using Lynx which needs a laptop to connect, and I use the Nanocom far more. Support from BBS is also very good.
