Greetings!

I'm working on a freind's 1997 Land Rover Discovery which keeps blowing Fuse 14, which takes out the gauge cluster. This fuse only blows when the vehicle is put into Drive. It doesn't blow if the vehicle is put into reverse or neutral, only when it goes into drive.

I'm a bit baffled what would cause a fuse to blow when put into drive and not reverse, so I'm asking the forum to give me a clue as to what might be going on here.

Any suggestions or leads? I've tried disconnecting the park/neutral switch, but when I do that the transmission won't shift into drive. I've walked through the multifunction test which didn't show me any errors...

Thanks for your assistance.

I would check the obvious first, and make sure the the movement of the gear stick isn't catching a cable or switch etc. Next I would get a good wiring diagram and see what fuse 14 protects ( it may protect other circuits). And look for the components in that circuit that could short to earth. You could then unplug component connectors and re connect until you find a fault.

As has already been suggested, a careful close inspection of all the wiring around the gear selector lever would be the first step.
The wiring diagrams and workshop manuals can be downloaded F.O.C from:

Has it ever towed a caravan? Is there one or a tell tail of an auxilary socket? Once had a similar issue - different vehicle, which when drive was selected allowed power to the auxilary socket to charge the caravan battery once the vehicle was moving. As the drive was selected the previous owner had robbed the feed from this circuit which resulted in a dead short as the auxilary socket was full of dirt. Alternatively look at the power feed to the gear selector illumination. Good luck and hope you sort it but please do let us know how it turns out.

Unplug C370 and see then
