Hi, I own a Discovery II TD5, bought brand new last April. To the point. A large crack has appeared in the middle of my windscreen coming down from the top of the black seal (about 3 inches) then continues to the drivers side (another 3 inches). I had used the car the night before and can be sure it wasn't there then, no stone hit the windscreen, there is no impact dent in the crack, just simply a crack from the black seal. So I am posetive that it's a "Stress Fracture". After taking the car straight to my nearest Land Rover dealer where I bought my car (Merlin) I came away very disappointed and angry. They told me that the crack was caused by a stone hitting the windscreen but there is no way that happened, I don't think they can take the blame of a "Manufacture Defect" to be honest. The car isn't even a year old! So I still have the cracked windscreen. I have had 8 Discoverys and this hasn't been the only time it has happened! This happened to anyone else? Can I have any advice on what to do? I'm so annoyed. Cheers for now, Thomas Hankinson

Sounds strange to me mate.

Have you checked to see if it is covered on your insurance? You won't lose no claims fo claiming I don't think. Worth checking anyway.

Hi first of all can you not take it back to the dealer you brought it from that dealership sound like t**sers, we have people come in with the same cracks and landrover change the screens due to stress fractures, these do normally happen in the first 3 months of ownership though.best thing to do is have another go some where else or complain of a water leak dripping from around the mirror area, and wet the head lining from 1 of the "A" posts to centre and if they say its your screen you can say well its never leaked before they will have to do it under warranty,i know its sneaky but it works thats why you have a warranty, landrover dont like complaints directly and they are normally happy to help.

I must say that you are so correct! The dealer who was supposed to be 'Helping' us did totally the opposite, he was very rude, talking under his breath, kept on talking down to us etc. So we came away not wanting anything else to do with Landrover! I'm going to make a formal complaint and see how it goes, will keep you informed! Cheers, Thomas Hankinson

Well you go for it remember the saying the customers always right, esp when they spend a lot of money, its always good to rattle chains every now again keeps the good dealerships in buisness, let us know how you get on.

Well after ringing Landrover (not the dealership I took it to) they said if I took it to another dealer and said it was a stress crack, they would be happy to change the window at no extra cost. So I shall be taking it to another dealership (Duckworth) which is a bit further away but seem to be very nice with customers as we have dealt with them before and been happy. So I shall take it there and tell you how it goes, Cheers, Tom
