So the story, I've always had v8 discoveries since I've started driving. Always wanted a defender, but never had the money. Until this one came along I ended up stealing it for £1600

Has had a 300tdi conversion at some point runs really really well! very noisy due to the amount of holes in the floor and bulkhead, and no sound proofing atall.

It didn't come with the 33" Mt tyres had standard steel wheels on.

The bulkhead is pretty shot tbh

The outside doesn't look that bad but footwells are none existent.

So planning a full rebuild and just got a nice big tax rebate so got a little extra cash floating about now :D

Got a pair of discovery 24 spline axles to rebuild. Just picked the diffs up after a rebuild they look great!

Need to just finish up the axle casings and hubs.

Was done by Steve who I found on Facebook, he used to do it for a living but now as a side business got all the gear all round great guy. Got his details of any one wants.

Good luck with the rebuild Ben. They're great fun, loved everyone of mine. Aside from the costs

The diffs look good and would agree a good guy who know's what he's doing. No idea why he stopped but heard nothing but good things about him.

The bulkhead looks repairable. You can buy new door pillars/footwells etc for not much money.
If you can weld that is. And I would recommend YRM for weld in panels, great quality and fit.

Do you have any plans for the rebuild? Or is it a strip it and see.

The bulkhead probably is tbh, but I can't weld. Think what I'm going to do is buy a recon galv one (£700) from a guy I found on eBay. And think I could probably sell mine on for £150/200.

Ohh yes there is a plan!

Richards chassis (300tdi) (£1700) paint it black
Rebuild these axles (£500)
Then do a full rolling chassis with 2" lift and correct arms etc. (£900)
Galv bulkhead (£700)
Try and find some decent doors (£500)
Swing away wheel carrier (£180)
Td5 rear side windows got them (£100) got em
Engine rebuild may go up to a 2.8 on the 300tdi (£a lot)
R380 gearbox (£300)
Disco tf box got it
winch bumper cheapish winch (for show really)
Led rear lights (£150)
Respray it in that tomb raider grey

I look forward to following this, you'll be chucking some serious ker-ching at it then. The bulkhead seems easily fixable

Yeah , I think it's worth it as I intend to keep it for ever. I'm in a fortunate position at the moment. As I have landed on my feet with a good job. And still living with my parents for next few years until I can cash out some shares. So I have low overheads tbh. Once I get these axles done will be getting suspension and chassis ordered :)

Make the most of it bud:p Wife, kids, mortgage and bills blah blah blah:lalala:

You could have your doors rebuilt, might work out cheaper.
Can any one tell me if there's a way to follow threads on this forum, I love rebuild threads and don't want to miss this one. I'm getting all giddy now:high5:

Im thinking about having mine rebuilt, but I like the idea of getting the push buttons rather than the lift handles. Mine aren't even really in that mad of nick for 30 years old tbh. But I want it to feel like a brand new defender. I want to try fitting everything that I fancy as otherwise I will end up doing it further down the line anyways I'm one stubborn git haha

Mpg* haven't been up to much on it lately I'm struggling with stripping the axles got a few very stubborn bolts. Will be away next week for work so next Monday will try and get some heat on these bolts and then update

Slow progress due to work :(

So got a winch bumper which I think looks the nuts, roof rack that needs a little tlc but usable. Still messing about with the axle casings. Not going to do the chassis. Once I get axles done I'll buy all the suspension and put axles on chassis as its too good to replace tbh

Got the windows in this week

Got a set of TD5 doors but need some tlc and a pair of new skins for £100! :)

got a NAS spec rear bumper from a TD5 to collect on Friday too. And a td5 bulkhead to go and have a look at
