After 18 months I finally fixed the sunroof that has never worked (replacement motor off fleabay)
however the wind deflector flap keeps falling out where the springs/pin things push into the plastic housing. Anyone have any idea what holds it in place please? I had a look in Rave but the images of the sunroof components are crap.

Many thanks

Brian

Not sure if this is any use its pretty basic too and does'nt really explain much either but maybe the pics are different and will give a clue (oh its for the 2011 but does say All variants)

@marjon thanks for the reply but it's different to mine. Mine has 2 springs with pins through them that go into a plastic housing as per below but can't see anything to hold it in place. I could just remove it but would like to sort it properly. Maybe if someone has still got a working one they could have a look at theirs. Pretty please :D

Yes I have that pic too, and too be honest they don’t really say much about the deflector either.

Sorry to say but you can’t see much with it in place.
so maybe the whole cartridge needs to come out to put it in properly.:(

notice the little round rubber bumpers don’t know if they are relevant to stopping it coming out?

@marjon many thanks for taking the trouble, the last picture almost shows it. Now it's stopped raining I had a better look and hopefully it's sorted.
The spring drops into a channel in the plastic housing with a little help from a screwdriver, Now all I need to do is get it to close properly, damn thing closes then opens again straight away unless you inch it closed rather than full auto close. Gonna try a calibration reset procedure cos I can't see it snagging on anything.

Keep us posted.
I will try and get a better one underneath as the last pic tomorrow afternoon if you haven’t Sussed it by then.

just got to try and remember where I put that endoscope thingy.

I have managed to secure the flap so all is good there but thanks for the offer, I just can't figure out why it very nearly closes then opens again if you press the switch hard for the auto close function. It's ok if you close it bit by bit, or auto close from around 6 inches or so on most occasions. According to the book it uses current sensing to see if anything is stopping it from closing but I can't test that until my new clip on ameter arrives from China in a week or 2.

Have you given the full tilt hold the button couple of seconds, full open hold the button couple seconds then close hold the button couple of seconds thing to reset it ?

@kds not tried that one. I'll have a go tomorrow cheers. Rave reset says hold tilt or closed for 15 seconds then fully open sunroof. Replacemet came with ecu attached to maybe remembering last sunroof.
Sorry for the delay, not getting alerts to show repliees.

Mine did the nearly close then open again on auto thing when I got it and always seem to sit a little low when closed, found some info on tinternet about doing the tilt open/close then holding button when closed for so long to let the roof sort its self out sat ok after that hope it still works not been open for couple of months !

mines says 20secs hold min

INITIALIZATION

Initializing the roof opening panel allows the control module to learn the end positions of the motors travel. Hall

sensors in the motor provide pulses for motor spindle rotation. The control module counts the pulses and determines

where the panel is by memorizing the stored pulses.

If the system is not initialized, the roof opening panel will only operate in the tilt up and slide closed positions.

The roof opening panel initialization procedure is as follows:

Start the engine

Ensure the blind is fully closed

Press and hold the roof opening panel tilt switch, when the roof is in the tilt position release the switch

Press the tilt switch again and hold for 20 seconds

The roof and blind will then open, ensure the switch is kept pressed until the roof has completed its opening and

closing cycle.

Once the roof opening and closing cycle is complete the roof opening panel has been initialized.

I think that's the one I followed. With the sunroof closed if you press and hold the close button the sunroof tilts after 15 seconds and just stays there. The way I read the instructions once the roof is open when you next open and close it it calibrates itself using the pulses mentioned by @marjon. Tried that a few times and Auto still hit and miss, but mainly fails when the roof has been opened more than half way, if I press and hold the close button it works fine, or if I stop auto close after halfway then start it again it generaly works.

@marjon thanks for posting your instructions but that didn't work either. It hasn't worked for 18 months so maybe I just need to keep using it and see if it fixes itself. As I say I can close it by holding the button so that's fine for now.

Thanks again both for taking the time, much appreciated.

@backinblack mine came from topix.

Maybe there’s a stiff bit in the mechanism so the anti trap see it?
Anti trap is supposed to be ignored when gap is 4mm, look from the top and see how much gap there is before it opens again.

but yes use it and see how it goes if it hasn’t been used for that long.

I had to video it last night as it is so close to being closed. I read that bit about the 4mm so once I've put the video on the pc i'll be able to have a look.

Right managed to get a clip from the video when it goes into reverse and it looks like it may be closing on the far side first. I'll try and do another one from a better angle when I can get the ladders out :D
