Last week i bought my first RR. Its a 1996 DSE auto. Ive wanted one for a while so i decided to take the plunge. At first everything was ok, but then.....while driving home i broke down, due to low diesel, which i found out is probably the diesel pump in the tank. Then when i got it started again, the next day i gave my mate a lift to work who pointed out that there was no heat coming out on the passenger side probably the blend motors. Then i noticed that my seats don't heat up, then the front heated screen doesn't work to well. And to boot it all my mpg is poor 19mpg? And i am really disappointed with the performance. Arghhh:doh:
But im taking it tomorrow to get a full diagnostic on it. Just to know what im dealing with and what i need to fix.
My only question is really though, if i change the diesel pump etc will it help fuel consumption? Or is there something else i should be looking at?
And the back lights under my electric window/sunroof switches dont work?
Sorry for the moan, but i think that ill love it when i get things sorted, ive wanted one for years to be honest, and now i finally got one .....well you know what i mean!
Thanks anyway!:)

i know its my fault about the heater (blend motor) fault but the rest i could not really test for i suppose. But dont mean to be to negative and im sure ill be fine once i get the bits sorted. Not to much money to sort the small things if i do the work. £60 single blend motor and £60 for diesel in tank pump. Then ill start looking at increasing the fuel economy.
Cheers:D

if the injectors is worn the mpg is love . i would region that you get them tested and if needed serviced :)
then you are sour that it gets the right amount of diesel:)

my rr have 184k mils on it ant it starts and run like new

Whilst its on diagnostic, get them to check the heaters distribution flap, and if it is blend motor, passenger side is dead easy.As regards performance, its a 2 1/4 ton diesel so what did you expect, give it a good service and fit a PSI box or chip it.
If diesel intank pump on its way out never let it go below 1/4 full otherwise you'll have trouble starting it,but it'll keep you going until you change it.You can either drop the tank or cut hole in rear floor, try search thread you'll get your answers. As for the heated seats and windscreen,i take it the switches were missing and thats the reason you couldn't test them.
But seriously if you come out with comments like that your gonna get burnt.Oh and welcome

:welcome2:

19 mpg is about what i get from my dse around town in sheffield....get about 26 on a run at steady 70mph.
Chipping does help but you will use the power more so may get a drop in mpg at first:D

Thanks guys. I am sorry about the negativeness. Just one Of those days. But I'll like I said earlier, I'll sort my minor nigles out and I'll be happy I'm sure. As I love the look and ride experience of my beast. I think it's what real men should drive Grrrrr! Also this forum is amazing for helP and information. That's how I found out the blend motor, diesel PumP faults etc. I even read uP on buying a RR on here before buying one. (not all advice was taken in obviously). So any way I ended up with a 1996 RR dse 156k in midnight blue with grey leather, slightly tinted windows with 18"hurricane alloys, and air suspension changed to coils. And since owning it all of a week I've put clear side repeaters and font indicators on it, private plate, new head unit and sorted out the really minor faults like door handles sticking, ashtrays staying open, changed hideous blue wipers that were on it, and replaced some small and cheap fascia items that were missing. So all together she's looking awesome I have to say. And to add a godly comment, it's my favourite colour!
Thanks again everyone.

See yu got yo priorities sorted :D.

Worn FIP will cause low power and possible poor fuel economy. as will worn injectors. Air filter & fuel filter if dirty will cause poor power and poor fuel economy. Sort out the basics before fitting chips etc. Plus filters cost less! Chip if you want but don`t waste money tuning a choked up engine. Also check vacuum tube from inlet-manifold ain`t split.
So a basic service before putting on a diagnostic, will show the true state of the engine.
Oh, and change the pollen filters as these are often overlooked and contribute to HEVAC problems.

If that's all that's wrong with a 96 you got a good one. Many of your problems are petty and easy to fix. 19 mpg is normal around town. Give it a good service and get your hands dirty for a few hours it will be as good as new. Well almost. Look through posts for help.

Check the injector leak off pipes for poor fuel consumption, also air filter and fuel filter before you rush off and spend loads on the injectors etc. Fit a PSI Powerbox which will transform the performance. Mine now has 103K on the clock, the long term average fuel consumption checked brim to brim is 24mpg, it has topped 30mpg on the motorway.
