Oh well, only a month or so in and my 1.8 freelander won't start this morning. Turning over but not firing.

Waiting for the recovery guy to turn up.

Oh joy.

Think I dropped lucky on this one - recovery guy was determined to get it started.

He was checking the fuel pump, located under the rear seat and moved the wiring loom slightly and this sorted the problem.

I wonder if it's a common problem where the seat rubs the loom?

I think there have been one or two problems with the K series fuel pumps. The TD4 is well know for dropping fuel pumps. The K series sticks in the mind with Head Gasket Failure, for some reason... Anyway, good result.

It is a common problem. The wires tend to get crushed if the rear seats are used a lot and the wires haven't been correctly routed/protected which can cut through the wires or cause the loom to break up inside the sheath.

V8 Disco 1's suffer from a similar fault aswell. They tend to break the main live feed wire where it goes through the sealed hole in the top of the sender. The break is usually inside and not visible by eye. When I come across this as a fault I tend to remove the sender, drill a new hole, grommet and sealer it and then re-fit the sender to get people going.

my wife had the same prob she parked at school tried to start it it turned but not start when i got there told her to try there was an awful noise coming from the cam cover told her to stop undid the cover and found ballbearings the aircon tensioning pully collapsed bending the valves in the process:frown:
