MPG of the various Disco's we've had:

TDi 200 manual - daily: 36mpg; best ever: 47;

TDi 300 auto - daily 33mpg; best ever 37;

TD5 auto - daily 29mpg; best ever 35.

Out of curiosity to get 29mpg daily driving do you have to poodle around ive put new injector harness,new airflow, and de egr and still only get 20 i drive 5 miles to work so it only just gets warmed up a lot better on longer runs need to clean out intercooler will this make any differance?

Hi Guvner, I do drive a bit like Miss Daisy, but it has taken me quite a time to get the best out of the engine/autobox combo. I'm also not driving in traffic so I have no great need to get up to speed quickly before being mown-down by some "nutta".

5 mile journeys are not going to help either - why not buy a bike?

Cleaning the intercooler will make a bit of difference but you are still left with a 2200kgs car and only going 5 mls in it.

With related figures like that obsession comes to mind :) the last time I check my mpg 4 years or so ago it averaged 18 mpg so thats ok no probs there :D

I call it just knowing what's going on, that's all.

The OP asked for info and I provided some - what's obsessive about that?

You seem to be rather critical of my posts when all I'm trying to do is to help others. I left England because I was tired of other people forcing their opinions on me.

Do me a favour, get off my back.

Whats a pushbike? thats my problem 2 minutes and im on a duel carriageway so have to get speed up

wow thats quite good, i wouldnt have a clue what my freelander does mpg, i put £40 a week in it and get 200 miles (well i did when it was 4x4, now its not im getting more!) im guessing discos arnt much more expensive to run thanks

or maybe they are ive seen the other replys now, i only drive short trips! but need big 4x4 for towing, couldnt tell you what my 200tdi or 300tdi did as they ran on cherry, till i got caught x2 :(

I must have OCD.
I,ve done an mpg calc for every tankfull in every vehicle ive had !.

In my opinion, its a very good way of keeping a check on how your motor is running. Dodgy sensor readings, failed components, even sticking brakes and under inflated tyres all will affect mpg.

With the D2 the " factory " combined mpg for the manual is 26.6 and LRO gave it " real world " figure of 25.8. ( TD5 ).

My 2002 Td5 is doing 27.8 when towing my 200 TDI disco, and 28.9 when my wife uses it doing 3 to 5 miles at a time.

If I go on the moytorway at 60 mph I get about 34.

I have done the EGR, de-cat, pipercross filter and remap. ( if you dont know what all that means, you will do once you,ve bought one !! ).

( this MPG question gets asked a lot )( it ought to go in the top ten most asked questions together with, Please help, Which tyres, The tree Amigos and Air suspension,s dropped overnight !!. )

You've forgotten de-EGR and de-CAT in your top ten :D:D

Must be that these are the things most people care about.
And must be that there are still questions about it. (or might be an option to put a fixed thread on those subjects, no?)

just done all that ie de EGR, new airflow meter and re-mapp, was getting anywhere between 25 and 35 depending upon where and when, I will run it for a week or 2 and let you all know if the figures go up or down, probably down to start with as it is difficlut not to drive it a little harder , might have to wait till the novelty of all that new power wears off

been a few weeks now since re mapp and I have'nt oticed any difference to my MPG but my driving style has changed, I can now join motorways from slip roads at motorway speeds if needed, thats got to be safer !! also at 70 mph in 5th I have enough ooommph to overtake, again safely. the car will now tow my caravan up even gentle inclines without the need to keep changing down. I have just recently driven a Nissan Navarra pick up and althoughI am not going to rush out and buy one i was very impressed with the power and its towing abilities, the nissan is approx 176 bhp which is about what my disco is running at now and I believe it now has the sort of power it should have had from new !
