Hi all, I'm trying again with this one. I mis-described it last time as the oil rad - but I meant gear box oil rad.

Thinking of moving it from the current location under the faring behind the grille where you might find a fog light - see picture - to some where out of reach of the mud - maybe behind the EAS system in the space in the engine bay.

Just looking for any pointers from the resident genii.

Particularly with regard to the pipes from the gearbox to the radiator. Can I crimp the rubber hoses and disconnect the radiator or do I have to drain the gearbox oil before doing any work?

I saw a post a while ago that referred to an 'affordable' way of replacing the oil cooler hoses - any idea what that said - or how to find it?

Are there special hoses for the oil or can I use any generic auto hoses to extend the current hoses to the new rad position?

See photo's for what I'm looking at.

This one is the view from above looking down at the hoses.

Then the view of the rad and fan from the front of the car.

Suggest either you stop driving your car where it is not designed to go or buy a pressure washer and clean it after every excursion. :D

Come on @wammers - I only bought it to take it places its not supposed to go... hang on I drive it on listed public high ways - not over muddy fields, where is it meant to go if not where I drive it?

Do you have/ are you getting a bobtail set-up, Nick? ie tempting to have the rad/ gear cooler etc on the back deck

Ah, no not thinking of going that far. I'm trying to keep it stock - I love them as they are. Having said that, I fitted a snorkel and rock sliders so far, 16" steel wheels with Cooper Explorers and obviously I'm considering moving the oil cooler, and also Datatek's fan mod.

I expect we might lift it at some point to get some bigger tyres on too.

Where do you go?

OK - Bitten the bullet - or at least I have splashed some cash and bought the tubing and crimps - so now I have spent £20.00 Ive got to do it!

Need to ensure enough airflow over it without blocking anything else, hence why they hid it by the fog-light. The front is taken up by the intercooler and aircon condenser. If you move it back by the EAS box I think you will need a duct to get air over it and out the back again.

I did wonder about that. the idea of sticking a hole in the bonnet like the intake for a US style super charger when I have just fitted a snorkel goes against the grain though.
I'm going to end up with a very Heath Robinson looking car.
Has any one else done this and experienced living with it afterwards?

Get a manual. :)

Sure someone has done it but if so he's probably still in his padded cell and unable to type with his feet.

I've seen the rad for an auto moved up and in front of the engine rad.
The P38 mentioned had no aircon and a bit more space in the grill area.
I'd like to move mine up wards at the side of the alternator with a fan I can setup with an adjustable thermostat.
I will need to know the temperature the factory fitted fan comes into play as I do t have one mine.
The bigger electric fan I fitted works in conjunction with Datateks mod. The hole system cools the rad in less than 30 seconds and worka brilliantly off road at very slooooowwww speeds. ;)
