I took the car a few weeks early to be MOT'd just in case there were any problems, and didn't check anything on the car.
The only preparation I did was replace 2 brand new tyres which had side wall punctures from my off-road trip last weekend.

It passed with flying colours. :D

The emissions I was told were very good, and that is with a EGR bypass and the remap, with 2-stroke oil in the fuel tank as well.

Oh well. Thats done till the end of May next year.

Always nice to hear of them flying through the MOT, out of interest what's the significance of the 2 stroke in the fuel tank?

Since they took most of the sulphur etc out of diesel, it doesn't have the lubrication qualities it used too.
One way round this is to add two stroke (mineral base not synthetic) too your diesel. Many various amounts are used. I find 100 ml per 53 liters of diesel works well on my 2002 td4 auto. Others use different quantities.
It's a bit suck it and see. Others have noticed absolutely no difference at all.
Have a go, but it will normally take at least 1 tank of fuel mix to notice the difference.

Would be good to keep the tyres and be able to have them in reserve or off roading days

With holes in them?

It did cross my mind, but I haven't enough storage space for them plus I left them at the tyre fitters.

Didn't know they had proper holes in thought they just had some cuts that the mot man wouldn't appreciate.

No. Proper rips in side wall flat in seconds on the front and a slow puncture on the side wall on the rear. I could use tubes, but it is frowned upon these days unless for an emergency.

nice to know when somebodies landy passes , I always take mine early ,just in case .
I took the wife's freelander early as it is a 1998 petrol and was expecting the worse as last year I replaced all the rubber mounts on the back end and new brakes all round ,but this year no advisories and flew through it.

Ok, happy to try if there's a benefit, just one thought though...if I used the red dyed stuff made by Stihl will it dye the fuel to the extent where if you got pulled by the old bill and got your tank dipped they'd try and do you for using red diesel?

The red dye used in diesel is a chemical dye which stains the whole fuel system, hmrc will test the diesel properly to give them a prosecution.
If you are dipped and it looks a bit red then you may have a bit of explaining to do until the chemical test is done.
Hope this helps.

Why not use tubes in them just for of roading?.......what tyres were they?..??

225/65R17 :D

I could use them just for off-roading, but I would want another set of wheels with them on already. So not really practical.

Otherwise it is a lot of phaf changing tyres etc. I will just get some 16" tyres that are about the same circumference instead and put some winter rubber on them and use them for spares instead.

Seems such a shame to bin new tyres.....could you not get some spare alloys to mount the damaged tyres on?.....might be worth it in the long run if you do a lot of off roading......:)

I know. I don't have the space for even more wheels. I don't have a garage! Or a big enough shed. Evolution wheels are going for £250/£600 a set on eBay depending on condition. I would want matching wheels......

Strata Florida seems to claim a lot of new tyres according to my tyre supplier, who is a 4x4 tyre specialist.
