Horrible damm thing... but... its powered by an L Series :)

Actually its the G Series Rover developed from the L Series so its common rail with Siemens ECU and now got fancy injectors, 16 valve head etc. Knocks out 150HP these days.

Ugly little bastid, isn’t it?!

Wouldn’t you say the move from L series injector pump to a common rail, with all its sensors, will take away the benefits of the L, namely simplicity and reliability?

G-series was developed by Rover Powertrain before MG Rover went belly up?

L-series is a nice simple lump, tough as boots and pretty tunable (the ZR boyz were very active with L-series tuning a few years back - hopefully the ZR forums retain all the tricks used). But a G-series might be an interesting upgrade project! Are all the mounting points the same? May be take the head and the injector gubbins and bolt it to a proper L-series... Rover manage to balance their engines better than the nice lads in Nanjing, and probably better than those involved with the "Extreme"(ly ugly)?

lol, it gets better, their top of the lime model is called the .......

Extreme VD

:D:D:D

Funny you should say that, just checked and they do a DI version on all the models described as "Turbo Charged Intercooled Direct Injection (TCIC) DI G1 Series 2L, 4 CYL Engine", knocks out the same(ish) 100hp of the L Series and probably isn't to far different. Don't know what pump, injectors and ECU it uses.

Its getting more 'attractive' all the time :)

The Tratter boys will like it as well cos this modern marvel of SUV engineering runs on leaf springs at the back and the "school van" version runs with drum brakes on all 4 corners.

could be ideal for your usage GG.
Definitely :)

When the kids were young I could have gone for something like this. We had a Daihatsu Hijet MPV for quite a while, spent good cash on it as well almost new. Fun little motor that we took round France on our hols, 4 individual front seats and a 2 seater bench at the back that folded up against the middle row and gave heaps of space, pokey little 3 cylinder engine - but probably a death trap.

The Extreme would be great as a tour bus out exploring the South Island, and we'd get looks of admiration where ever we went - but is also probably a death trap by modern standards.

Ha. Thats hilarious. :D

It's so terrible that it's almost good.

It's a bit G-Wagon/early Shogun shaped at the back and makes me think of vehicles like the Daihatsu(?) VW camper thing, the Figaro and that Micra based Mk2 Jag in terms of it's rubbish appearance.

What is nice is that this G-series engine comes in a self propelling delivery system. But that packaging is going to really fill up the recycling bin... ;)

Someone at LRDirect would have fallen off their chair at LRDirect if I'd clicked "Pay and Proceed" :)

Actually they wouldn't because someone at Visa would have said NO long before that :)

I can picture the DHL man carrying it up the garden path to get a signature though!
