metal A Bar

Hello,
I have the opportunity to pick up a cheap A Bar, it's the metal one not the plastic nudge bar, it needs some TLC cause it has some dents on it but I can fix those.
I was thinking if it really has any practical use? I don't agree in mounting anything on the car and have to stand with worse MPG just for the looks, so how many of you have ever hit anything and wish you had one or saved the front of the car cause you had it?

had one on my first td4 pre face lift. Ran into a wall in a car park once glad it was on. Have not bothered on my present face lifted model as i think it looks better without.

Yep I've nudged a few walls as well. Also makes people think twice before pulling out in front of you. And it's somewhere to put spot lights

Whats the general opinion on them plastic ones? is it as good as having nothing to protect?

in my old car there was a bloke who parked his car in front of me and refused to move it and there was no other way out so i told him if he did not move it i would push it with a a frame on , he laughed at me so i did push it and di not stop pushing it until i could get out . he has now moved .

Not sure, but I've never been pulled for it. I think it might be illegal to sell them but not to fit. It was covered on here a while ago.

Don't think it illegal to have a metal bull bar on as I've got 1 on mine and it passed it's MOT with it on and I've just been looking at insurance and bull bars was a tick box on the mods part.

i think it's depends on the vehicle's year of manufacture ..
or when it were first registered ..
somethin' like that

yes and it bent still sat in shed at mo but other than that cracked bumper the focus looked a right mess.How dare he hit me head on on his side of road, hasn't he heard of the pavement

in Portugal I think it is legal to have them on cars built before the EuroCode that "baned" them;

mine td5 is a 1999 and had stainless a frame from new 1635 pounds worth still got receipt.

A silly woman reversed into my metal a bar. End result she had a cracked bumper freelander.... Not even a scratch
