Disco 3 (LR3) Memory seat control module location

Hi folks
Just a quickie:
Can anyone tell me where the memory seat module is located on my 08, Disco 3, HSE (R.H. drive).
Is it readily accessible or does half the car have to be dismantled ??

I think you will find its all under the seat itself actually bolted to the underside
The seat base can be removed and it held on with 4 very tight torx bolts on the under side, you have to power seat back and forth to get on the bolts.

The box under the passenger seat is the sat nav dvd drive

Used to those crappy bolts. It used to take me 10 minutes to unbolt the drivers seat on the P38's, disconnect and remove the Becm's. Mind you, I was a bit more flexible in the joints then !!

Got the DVD workshop manual but not yet had chance to install it on the PC yet.
As per my recent post, I am p***ed off with the LH mirror having a mind of it's own when reversing so bit the bullet and bought a new module.

Did you try switching off the lazy entry feature? this cured the left hand mirror sagas with mine.

Hi again lynall...I suppose it's nit picking but if the function is there, it should work.
When I bought the Disco I chose to buy the HSE spec and expected that all the bells and whistles would perform. I know it has cost £150 including post for a new unit but I just want things to work as they should.
If I bought a car with aircon and it didn't work, I could, on a hot day (rare in North Wales !!) just open all the windows to compensate.
Switching off the Lazy entry hasn't cured the problem Bud-it's just swept it under the carpet.
I fully accept that people have a different approach to problems-perhaps I am too old and set in my ways. I do accept and understand your psyche and thinking.

No I totally agree if I have something i expect it to work, especially a/c.
Im the same with tools if it wont/doesnt do the job its in the bin and new/better tool time.
Let us know how you get on and if it fixes it pls give us the part number etc.

Replaced the unit yesterday, took about an hour and I didn't remove the seat.
As you guys rightly said, the module is located and secured to the seat base by two self tapping screws (TX25 heads). If the seat is raised to the highest position it can be easily seen at the front edge through the gap in the front plastic "Skirt".
To do the job. firstly drive the seat fully back and raise to it's highest position. Using a long, sturdy wide blade flat screwdriver or similar. prise the ends of the plastic skirt away from the seat frame-it is secured by two spring clips each end and remove. This will give fairly restricted access to the module screws. I used a thin inexpensive ratchet screwdriver that I bought from Maplin a few years ago for a couple of quid to remove them.
The wiring loom is secured to a crossbar on the seat base by a horseshoe type plastic clip. locate and pull it off, this will give access to the connectors.
turn the module upside down and depress the lug located in the centre of the connector and pull out-they may be stiff but be certain that the lug is fully depressed.
Refitting is the reverse but place a plastic carrier bag or similar over the seat frame to catch the retaining screws if you happen to drop them. A tip is to put a small piece of masking tape around the head of the screw and the bit to hold it in place.
Locate the plastic skirt fasteners and give it a thump with your hand to secure.
Seat & mirror functions will have to be re programmed.
Part number of the seat module is YWC500800 which I bought from LR Series for £121.30 plus VAT and shipping. (Genuine LR part) Prices vary between dealers and I found this to be the cheapest- delivery took a couple of days excluding the weekend.

UPDATE
Been a couple of days now since the new memory module was fitted (Brand new genuine LR unit, in box).
After following the initialisation process and programming the seat & mirror positions, including reverse dip all appeared fine until yesterday afternoon when the original problem came back- went to park up and the passenger mirror went up instead of down and had to be reset as when in Drive it was pointing at the sky.
Another problem has arisen - the electric steering wheel adjustment is inoperative in all directions, cannot even hear any signs of activity from the motor(s) when the control switch is moved.
Looks like a swap back to see if the steering column will work with the old module.

Might be a bad contact somewhere near the unit which fixed itself for a short time as the loom was moved to unplug/reconnect modules or the worst scenario that it's a resistive short somewhere which is ruining the units.... a nightmare to diagnose, i dont envy you at all, try to jiggle the harness in that area to see if it has some effect or not

That reminds me when I switched off lazy entry, shortly after I had a run in with another car and lost my whole nearside mirror and I havent tried turning lazy entry back on to see if its still got the same annoying adjusting issue.
Will try and remember to do it tomorrow.

Thought the module replacement went too well

Looks like it's a seat out job so the (old) dog can see the rabbit.

UPDATE
Nice dry day here yesterday so decided to "Remove" (tip back the drivers seat) to check the mass of wiring and connectors underneath.
All the connector pins were checked for security and cleanliness, the wiring checked for damage and possible trapment-all looked good.Then decided to refit & connect the old memory module-the electric steering column came back to life !!
So, the new part is going back to LR Series as a faulty unit for refund/replacement under Land Rover Warranty.
I was pleased with how easy it is to remove or tip back the seat on The D3, just 5 Torx bolts (TX50) and one pozi self tapper, the plastic trim bits are easy to remove being held in place by spring clips. There was nothing to be gained by taking the seat out of the car-it,s quite heavy and cumbersome on your own to manouvre, there is ample access with it just tipped back & resting against the rear seat. Put a smear of grease on the fore & aft adjustment screws whilst I was at i.
On a different note, I have purchased a Lynx interface (Not the Evo) for use with a laptop, which I prefer, that is loaded with Discovery software. It is model, not VIN locked so can be used on any Disco. This will compliment the Rovacom unit I have which has multi vehicle software for the Freelander. Will have a play with that over the next few days-weather permitting !!t

Could be theres different seat modules? as I think only late high spec D3 got the elec column and electric seat lumbar support

Yes, I have those bells & whistles. The part no. is shown on Microcat as YWC500800 which is the number on the original. The label on the original has identical details, part no software version etc etc as the new one- the only thing that differs is the date of manufacture. Original is 08 and the new 16.
I have just boxed the new one up and sent it back to the supplier under warranty.

UPDATE...
The replacement (Under LR warranty) new module arrived last week and I decided to fit it this afternoon before the forecast bad weather arrives.
Disappointed to find that I have the same problem as the one I returned-seat & mirror memories work (Can store them) but the adjustable steering column is as dead as a Dodo. Checked the switch operation (Outputs) on the Lynx and voltage signal is present for fore & aft, plus up and down movements but there is no sign of life at the adjustment motors.
I can see no options on the Lynx to initialise or activate the memory module and therefore assume it's just "Plug & Play".
Before I pop down to the local main stealers, can anyone with alternative diagnostic setups, Nanocom,etc., throw any ideas into the ring?
I find that two new genuine units giving the same malfunction to be remote, yet the original unit which has the same part number, with an identical label-apart from the manufacturing date, allows me to adjust & store the steering column position without any problems.

A lot of ecu's on the D3 are vin locked to the vehicle, don't know if that one is but it could be the issue.

I have a request...Is there anyone in the N.Wales/Cheshire area with access to either IID or possibly Faultmate (Not VIN locked) who can give the system the once over. Obviously I can come to you and Beer Tokens are the order of the day
