Mazda RX7/8 Front Seats

Hi guys

Thinking of replacing the two front seats with more sporty ones at some point and been looking at the Mazda RX 7/8 seats, does anyone else have these seats in their defender and what are they like driving in

i just fitted mine this morning. they are very nice to drive in.
you sit about 40mm higher. standard steering wheel is still a good size to fit under.
i am 6 foot.
mine are rx8 leather electric

i paid £150 for the seats. going rate i think in very good condition

How do you access the battery (without tools) for the MOT?

They are awesome. I was a bit sceptical going from buckets to rx8 but half a day's work cutting and welding some 40mm box to the bottoms and wiring them up was easy they are nice and look the part. Heated seats work well also. I only paid 110 for mine

It's well documented, the seat base is separate to the seat back or something so you just use two wing nuts at the front of the seat base for a quick removal.

Tbh I have a spanner in the dash for that but plan to cut a large hole in the side of the seat box with a door on it for better access

I undid and got rid of the two rear gold coloured bolts on the passenger seat leaving the two front ones easy to get at

They slide so far forward you don't need to unbolt them to get into the boxes.

Haha I never tried it that way always removed the two bolts

Its not enough to get the batt out but more than enough to get tools out or tinker with electrics.

Is this necessary for the MoT in some parts of the country? You can't get at the battery without a spanner in a Volvo V70 and it's never been an issue.

It's quite common now to not be able to access the battery easily which is why many cars often have a remote jump start point under the drivers seat or similar

If I tilt the seat forwards and the slide it backwards I can just about get to the batteries. I removed the bar from the second seat slider (as I used LR and RX8 rails) wish I hadn't, they would have slid forwards miles

True, however When I fitted them to mine, there are 4 goldy looks bolts that hold the seat base down. If you completely remove the back 2, leaving the front 2 fingertight, it doesn't affect the passenger sitting on the seat in the slightest and allows you to put your hand underneath the seat from the front and undo them, thus accessing the battery pretty easily.

Would that be safe in an accident or is the seat going to kill the passenger?!
