Hi all,

So I'm cracking on with my dissertation on the Defender (https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/defender-life-cycle-research.332258/page-2#post-4296383)

As part I'm creating an inventory of the extraction phase of a cars production, this includes compiling a majority of the components that make up a car, their wights and material, from which I can then work out their embodied energy and subsequent environmental impacts.

Land Rover actually officially advised I ask you fine folk as their data is confidential.

Currently I'm using Lrcat and certain online parts stores to calculate the weight of defender parts (I'm not attempting to cover every single part, I'm aiming for the integral parts and any further bits time allowing). But sadly online stores or parts catalogues rarely describe the components material make up.

I have a fairly good knowledge of the defender and can assume what most parts are made out of but I want to ask you if anyone knows any specific parts and what they're made out of to comment so can reference it (need to justify my own thoughts basically and can't reference myself).

Any help gratefully appreciated!

Are yer after info like the gearbox case being aluiminuminmum alloy and the engine similar? Bodywork a special version of the same int sheet form?

Yeah banging. Like I know the big things like the body, chassis, engine e.ct but like trailing arms, brake calipers, handbrake drums little things like that if anyone has any knowledge of what any parts like that are made from would be really helpful.

Egyptian cotton with a taffeta rough and a gold lame plunge back..........

Oh sorry, Defender. I thought it was Freelander.
