mains power sockets

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has set up mains power sockets in their landy?

I'm thinking of setting up a dual charge system and want to have 2 or 3 mains sockets in the back of my 90; would this be possible?
Hoping to use it when camping etc.
If it is possible, how would I go about setting it all up?

Mate has an ex lekky board 110 with an onboard 240/110 pto generator fitted he's got sockets everywhere. but to annswer your question you need an invertor and some extension cables
 
Cant remember if it was Lidl or Aldi but i bought a little inverter in there a few weeks ago for €20, so probably a few less £'s for ye lads.

It only rated to 150 watt but handy for laptops, phones and small work lights etc.. it plugs into cigarette lighter but i'll prob wire in permanently after a while

would need something bigger and prob more expensive for cooking and so on..

If ya keep an eye out it'll prob be back again soon

forget it ya batteries wouldn't last 5 minute with a invertor drawing 2 or 3 Kw.

Thanks both; not too keen on the cigarette lighter plugins to be honest; would prefer something connected straight to the one of the batteries and nicely hidden away.

When it comes to dual chargers; would you do a diy job or buy something like this for £40: X-eng High Performance Off-Road Engineering

Thanks for that; will this fully charge the first battery and then charge the second or will it charge both at the same time?

thing you need to consider is that a 1000W invertor connected to a brand new 68Ah battery will go from fully charged to flat in 32minutes. so plans for cooking running a fridge and presumably boiling a kettle (smallest is about 800w.) aren't realistic..

Doh! Thats no good then really is it:doh:
I was hoping to at least be able to boil a kettle for a cuppa to be honest...

If you keep the engine running you'd manage to boil a small travel kettle of the sort peeps use in caravans around the 750/800 watts range but forget anything bigger or sustained use. they're just not designed for it.

That would be hardly worth spending well over £200 for really wouldn't it.
What else would you be able to use it for? Obviously having a work lamp or charging phone/laptop but I'm not sure if that would be worth it really...

Dont get me wrong; I do want to have the split charge system anyway really as I'm planning on buying a winch in the future.
 
Just tuned in and really interested in this as off to france for two week drive round soon and wife just announced she wants to be able to use her hair dryer and starighteners! Just read 32 minutes to flat battery and started thinking b******s this could be expensive.

:) wouldnt it. Going to have to get a split charge then as i was thinking invertor with the engine running would do the trick, but i guess not.

Maplins sell small invertors that are great for running laptops, shavers fone charger etc. but I wouldn't bother going for a full split charge system until ya ready to fit ya winch.
