So the oil runs down the loom because of the ecu magnet right
So if i duck taped a magnet somewhere along the loom would the oil collect there just a thought

Cut a small hole in the loom in a low spot, then the oil will drip from there instead of getting into the vital stuff. Read about doing that a couple years ago on another LR site
 
I've found the problems start once the multiplug in the cylinder head starts getting wet with oil, never mind when it makes it as far as the ECU. I think anything that allows a little signal leakage from one wire to another will give you those 'peak charge long' error codes.
 
Disconnect one end of the loom and leave it hanging low so excess oil will drain out if yer think yer put too much in during the last service. Then fit the loom back and check and top up the oil level as normal.

Using the loom as a Siphon, genius....will it work on fuel too? If I ever need to empty the tank?

There's a write up on the D3 forum of owners doing this with some successful results. Some have had difficulty as they picked the wrong type of loom. Best to wait for the fool to separate and use the petrol or diesel pump loom depending on which fool yer need to drain oft. Only dip the loom into the fool yer want to drain oft. From memory diesel sinks and petrol floats.

I have often thought about tying a knot in the cable so the oil cannot get dragged down by the caterpillars, but then I thunk about it and was worried I would restrict the flow of electrolytes and it would cause misfire issues. Getting a balance on the tightness of the knot is a bit of a conundrum.
