I was talking today to somebody who works for a tuning company and we were talking about the issues I been having with the vehicle.
They then informed me that if I have a 10p engine then I can just go ahead and disconnect the maf and it won't affect anything.
I asked if it will be more thirsty or run a bit rough with it disconnected and he told me that it wouldn't drop mpg as the maf on a 10p engine only activates the egr.
He advised that the default settings will be used for the maf if it's disconnected and all other sensors will remain the same.

I'm a bit sceptical with this as why would there be a maf sensor in the first place on the 10p engine if it wasn't actually doing anything apart from making the vehicle run worse at times.

I'm looking for your opinions on this please guys as if it's correct I'll leave mine disconnected

Maf disconnected on mine upset the injector balance, also will be sluggish setting off after first started as it takes the ecu a few seconds to change to default map

It'll change to a default fuelling map, ovefueled I think with MAF disconnected.
If you disconnect MAF and car runs better, replace the MAF

That's what I did say to him, that it's meant to overfuel but he said no as the maf sensor doesn't have anything to do with the fuel like on the 15p

Oh no

I don’t know the specifics on the 10p engine. But in general a MAF is a Mass Air Flow meter. Ie it measure the flow and mass of the air and is then used to adjust the fuelling accordingly.

Unplugging it will then normally result in a default fuel map. Which should be save to run. But won’t be able to cater for different situations.

I find this all a bit strange as I don't see why somebody from a reputable landrover tuning company would suggest to leave it unplugged if it would cause any problems down the line.

I also don't see why there would be a maf sensor if it didn't do anything apart from control the egr valve. How does it activate the egr valve by the way ?

I'm also wondering why people say that these vehicles will over fuel if the maf sensor doesn't have anything to do with the fuel.

There seems to be 2 distinct camps, 1 saying it's just for EGR control, 1 for fuelling. Maybe small religious minority sect that say both. I'm in the sect :D

Just a thought, but maybe the company (Are there reputable companies? All exist to make money, all get some satisfied customers, some dissatisified!), suggest that in conjunction with EGR blanking.

I am with Wammers on this one, as far as I know from general principles, the Mass Air Flow Meter has no effect on fuelling on a diesel.
