suddenly on my way home to night the gear box seemed to get a little sticky when i went to reverse in to the drive i found out that i had no reverse, i know im due to top up the gearbox oil but could the lead to me losing reverse ? also the clutch feel like it could do with a bleed up could this be something to do with it ??? there just doesn't seem to be enough travel on the gear lever either that or it has just disappeared in to the depths of the box lol any help lease would be appreciated thasnks in advance

disco i think but it could have come out of a range rover it was a bit of a conversion job james lol its now in a defender

had similar happen to me on sunday, turned out to be the indent spring sticking,
if you remove the gearbox shroud and the lever, look directly down, there are 4 bolts, remove them and lift off the cover,
on the right hand side is the indenter, i gave it a good dose of wd40 and a few taps with the hammer to free it, bolted it back together and had reverse again

depends on what gear lever does if it wont go across enough then its rev plunger, if it will but wont go forward enough it could be a few things depending if def selector top or disco ,do all other gears select fully

tbh thy see a little sticky is a defender gear selector on to the disco box a fabricator friend of mine had to convert it reverse is to be found all the way to the left and back (i think) used every day lol but just something you do without thinking gawd im going to have to go have a look now lmao

sticky is that a stiff lever or loose one(loose can be loose grub screw under turret), gear selection will be stiffer or even grate if clutch isnt clearing

ive e just noticed that the gear lever itself is loose fron the spline so will tighten that up in the morning sticky as in doesnt want to select properly, now if go to select a gear it does feel like the clutch isnt clearing but it had a new heavy duty one when the box went it it will have done noe more than about 6k it has always lost a bit of clutch fluid from the top cylinder on the pedel box so it could need a bleed up ?? dunno mate just stabbing in the dark atm

ok grub screw in place and tight BUT the plunger is really really stiff with very little movement can it be taken off for now while a replacement is sourced with out any detriment ? cheers james

is your issue not enough side ways movement ?if so then perhaps but 1st gear will be hard to find then as its that that locates it or at least gives you something to push stick to

first is where first should be reverse ishard right and back there is a bolt that locates first on the left i guess it acts as a guide for first the plunger is on the right as you look down on it it apears that the plunger not depressing is stopping me from selecting reverse, this been the case can it be removed, gawd wish i was more tec minded

plunger gives 1st location and if you compress its spring reverse location ,is your issue lever not going over enough ie not compressing the plunger
