I have been reading intently the engine swops going on here but i have a similar problem I intend to tackle. I have a late 71 series III that had a rather tidy diesel conversion done but lacks the power so...I intend to put the n/a 2.5 in as i had a 110 with one and i loved it! It commuted 60 miles a day for a year and held 60 on the motor way and did 28 to the gallon. So... could I squeeze a LT77 or R380 gearbox in??? I know the rear prop will be short but... Many thanks to all who have been a great help so far!

I'm thinking of sticking a disco 200tdi and lt77 or r380 in my 88" series 3, whats wrong with just having it as permanent 4 wheel drive? also, how much shorter would the rear prop be?

@MonkeyDiver. The 2.5 n/a engine will fit straight on the Series box.

@jmattley. The single UJs in the front hubs is not the same as having a CV as you do in coil sprung LRs. The UJs will not last very long at all if you run with perminant 4wd. The 200Tdi will also fit straight onto a Series box.

There are LT77 box which had a selectable 4wd transfer box, but they are from very early 110s. As has been mentioned there are adaptors to run a Series transfer box on the back of an LT77.
