After spending ages trying to work out what will break and what wont, im coming to the conclusion that diff locks are very likely to break something if im using 10 spline diff and shafts, so is there anybody who does just a limited slip diff in 10 spline for the old range rover axle. Im thinking that this wouldnt be so severe, thanks in advance

Limited slip is often more severe as there are shock loadings thru the half shafts. A locking is 'kinder'. However, a Detroit locker is probably a good half way house. They are locked in normal operation but allow for some slip to allow cornering.

Personally I would upgrade to 24 spline and then fit a locker.

Remember a limited slip needs one wheel to spin before it will lock and by then momentum could be lost and it will be too late to maintain traction. A locked diff will allow for a lot more control and you can lock it in before tackling something tricky rather than 'hoping' the limited slip diff will 'work it out'.

Just my 2p worth, hope that hasn't confused you more :)

didn't someone used to make a friction drive, think it fitted at wheel hub end of half shafts, disigned to prevent half shaft, diff failures due to overloading?

How hard is it to change to 24 spline then. At the moment my series3 is running old range rover axles. Would i have to change the front as well or would that still be ok. What axle would straight bolt in fit (if any). Blimey i only want a tad more grip :)

look up the detroit truetrac (lsd) or detroit soft locker (locking diff)both should be ok with 10 spline half shafts as long as your not thrashing it offroad, but 24 spline shafts are stronger
