Alreet, just been looking through service history as I thought I had seen breather somewhere.anyway part no 8510298 has been changed in jan 10 which turns out to be the breather not BMW but the lr cotton type.the milage from mot oct 10 was 93k,the milage now is 106k I was going to change this when I cleaned egr over the hols but do yous think it will still be ok to leave for now?cheers

More than likely there would be no problem.

Never heard of one blocking after 13K

Having said that ...... it was changed nearly 3 years ago .... don't blame me if .......

I've been reading about these pcv blocking in freezing weather.

Apparantly low temp, thick oil, and low speed short journeys can be a problem. BMW have even a heated pcv option (or perhaps standard fitment) on some newer models for Canada, Russia and such places where severe winters are normal.

Its an easy quick 'transplant' job so I wouldn't delay unduly.

Singvogel.

Should be changed every service (12k miles) LR never included it in their service schedule but more knowledgeable individuals reckoned correctly that this was a load of rubbish. BMW's with the same engine suffered from turbo failure so they introduced the modified crankcase breather unfortunately LR didn't.
