Hello.....
2005 1.8i Petrol Engine. Have been reviewing the Low Coolant posts on the Freelander Landyzone and the Haynes Manual & the original Owners Handbook and cannot find the answers, so hoping some bright spark can clear up my confusion.
Firstly, I have the coolant level sensor fitted in the coolant system, just below the expansion tank - however this isn't wired up. Have located a wiring plug by the bonnet hinge (one red and one black wire) and assume this is the original connector (although it is only just long enough to reach the sensor plug) - can anyone please confirm that this is the right cable connector.......if not, any idea what it might be for?
Secondly, assuming this is the right one for low coolant level, what 'warning light' or other indicator should light up and does this light up on initial ignition or only when there is insufficient coolant levels?
Any information is more than there is in the Haynes manual 53-56 reg (and the wiring diags leave a lot to be desired!) and the owners manual is decidedly void of anything on the coolant levels, so cheers in advance....:)

Is there any standard capability for testing coolant level on Freelanders? I don't think so. People have fitted 3rd party pickups to the expansion bottle that illuminate a bespoke LED on the dash.

Here are images of the coolant level sensor incorporated into the 2005 1.8i K series !!!

The light that lights up when the coolant is low is found on the speedometer at about the 11 O'clock position. This is only on the facelift dash however.
As to the wiring colours, I can't help. I would however like to get my light working but I don't have the sensor in my TD4. Fitting a sensor into the bottle is easy enough though.

Hasn't anyone got a Freelander 1 facelift model (2005) that could lift the bonnet and see where & the colour of the wires for the Coolant Sensor??

this might help.....

Low Engine Coolant Level Warning Indicator
The low engine coolant level warning indicator is illuminated on receipt of a medium speed CAN bus signal from the CJB when the vehicle is in power mode 6. The signal originates in the ECM, which transmits the signal to the CJB over the high speed CAN bus.
When the vehicle enters power mode 6, the amber low engine coolant level warning indicator is illuminated for a 3 second bulb check. If the warning indicator remains illuminated after this period, the engine cooling system should be checked for leaks and topped up as necessary.

You've not put the correct dash image up MHM. That image is the dash for the Freelander 2 ;)
However the legend 22 is in the place of legend 14 on the FL1 dash.

I realise it is not perfect, but it is all I have found so far. The last image is from a rangie, but the fact that the wire colours are as stated, could be significant. The colours are different on the Fl2

What did you want?
I was curious if the OP (AFS1) ever found out if the light came on if coolant was low.
If so which light came on. I know that the kit that was available for pre 4A chassis numbers put the MIL on if coolant was low.
If the post 4A chassis also put the MIL on. Why did LR bother putting the lamp in the Ipack.
