Loud clonk when braking

Driving round with the windows down I have noticed a click when braking ,I think its just the brake blocks sliding in the calipers, but sometimes its accompanied by a loud clonk from underneath .Do you think its just gearbox backlash or something more serious?

Uj's first
then gearbox backlash
then pads sliding in calipers.

ive got a similar problem but ive put it down to the gearbox cos its just about shot !
