Rang the main dealer and they are saying it’s £742 for a new one. Can this be correct. Locksmith is saying he can’t do it without the main dealer key. Am I being bad over. Any suggestions to save a few quid.

Knowing what vehicle it is would be helpful.

At any price I'd have a dam good look for that fri gin key!
Happens more often than you'd think and peeps have found them in the weirdest places!

The dealer should be able to order a replacement key that fits the ignition lock, but it will be programming to the BCU, which adds to the cost.
Unfortunately you can't just get a key cut, as it might turn the ignition lock, but it won't start as the immobiliser will be active.

Simples to find out, just go and look a the OPs profile page - information... which states 2007 D3
I didn't look, as very few people bother filling out the vehicle details.

Why should you ?? If the OP can’t be arsed telling you what car it is, why would you be arsed looking at his profile to find out o_O

Sorry to say this, but I have often looked on member's details to see what LR they have and, tbh, I find most actooly do put them in.
But obvs not all.
And it IS stupid to ask for help if you don't provide the info!
