Hi all

I keep adjusting my tappets and one just starts tapping after a few miles I've had it to bits a few times now do you think the cam followers knackered if so I presume the head has to come off to change the follower etc etc also new timing belt kit? Is it really involved to do.

It's the second one along in the picture with no thread showing on the adjuster

All help will be much appreciated :(

Sorry I'm not very clued up which part do you mean? The rocker arm is worn. And the push rod has a few marks on it cam follower end

Many thanks
Rory

Won't that make it worse? As the adjusting tappet screw has no more adjustment
It will tighten the the rocker but I can't get the lock nut on it. That's what makes me think the push rod has worn into the follower where it's been tapping for a long time.
The old owner which was my neighbour who had it In the garage for a head gasket before I got it as it was sounding like a pop pop pop out the air filter resonator but now I reckon he just wound up the tappet and it does cure the noise for a little while then returns back to missy noise and loses alot of power. I just want to be half sure before I get it in the garage.
Are they chain or cam belt?

Thanks for your help

its worth checking the roller and sliding followers if push rods arent bent

Compare the length of the faulty pushrod with one of the others in case it has been fitted with wrong part.

The rockers on the end that sits on the valve are all different thicknesses.
Push rods are all the same length have had them all out and numbered then on a piece of card. I can't see the cam followers unless I take the head off.

I am looking into sending it to Glencoyne engineering for a full 200tdi conversion in the near future
