Would it be possible to cut the mating edge off and have a similar one welded to it or even fabricate one to it. Just a long shot.

Were these engines exclusive to Land Rover? They may have fitted them to other cars and you might find one that way

Fronteras also had VM engines fitted for a while in the early 90s. Might be worth a look.
