Lovely Shropshire...
Good Evening All:).

My brother is looking for a V8 P38 (bless 'im) having driven mine and i am wondering the following, ignoring all the other usual problems that they have......

1) Is there a residue that is easily spotted if you use K-seal (i think) or any other sealant to mask engine coolant leak probs as i have never used it and wouldn't have a clue as to what to look for?

2) Do any of you have a nice p38 for sale, he will be based in Shropshire and i am in the Gloucester area, but for the right car will travel.

Thanks in Advance.

Nick.

you can sometimes spot k-seal or similar by dipping a finger in the compression tank once the engine is running .. there may be copper specs or similar on your finger .. seeing the specs is pretty conclusive (although not 100%) - certainly reason to walk away.. not seeing the specs doesn't mean that no kseal has been used though so not a completely sure test.. you might also get track marks round the leak site.. but of course if internal that wont help you..

maybe take off the little pipe at the top of the rad, if its stuck fast then it could be bonded on there. if you can get it off look close for copper specs.

also see if there is any thing on the bottom of header, stir it up with a pen and look for any copper or if its a bit cloudy then it could be something as k seal turns water cloudy. there is also bars leak which is hard not to spill if you try to crumble it into the coolant tank!!

Cheers chaps.

I have absolutely no experience of any of these products so any advice or any anything worthwhile you might all think of would be very much appreciated.

Cheers, Nick.

if you want to make sure take drain plug off rad i never did this needed head skim and new rad have a good luck all the best j

Hi some people think k-seal and other like products are the devils doing, i have put k-seal in my p38 14 months ago and i have towed a BIG twin axle caravan all over britain with out any over heating problems or any other problems, it all boils down to the indavidual if they are happy with it so its your choise. :5bdriving:

i've used k-seal to extend the life of a cehicle that would otherwise be a deadun.. and it was fine for as long as I needed it to be.. wouldn't use it personally in a vehicle that was worth doing the work to though because of the potential for causing unseen damage that could cause problems after the more permanent repair.. the coolant systems in cars is pretty tough but you only need one blocked water channel to mess it up completely
