P38 front door locks problem the central locking works on the key but not on the push rod the CDL switch is ok etc there is an issue with the CDL motor but I cant get my head round why the CDL doesnt work of the pushrod. With the lock striped down I cant even see how the CDL is activated I am right in that the 3 switches are for the cdl door ajar and key switch anyway any help in understanding how the pushrod activates the CDL welcome ta

moving on have identified that the switch nearest the cover with the lock open is the key switch the middle one is he door ajar and the outer is the central locking - the central locking switch is activated by the electric motor or the push rod the switch is testing ok and the loom so it can only be the plastic slider anyone any ideas on this/ will try to build a new lock out of the components I have from a couple of knackered ones

It's a long time since I looked at the internals of the latches, but the biggest problem with the latches has always been water ingress. As you have worked out, the cdl system is activated by the CDL sw when you lock with the key or push down the sill button. Thus sounds a bit like a mechanical problem with the linkage for the cdl button, ie does the cdl sw go from closed to open circuit when you push the sill button down. To test this sw, easiest at the outstation conn (can't remember wire colour). Voltage on the cdl sw wire is 5V when CDL button down, 0V when button up. Another way to check the drivers cdl sw is to try and open the tailgate with the cdl button up (tailgate should open), with drivers cdl button down tailgate should not open (tailgate sw gets gnd from the drivers cdl switch).

The central locking works on the key which I think means the CDL switch is working as the key operates the mechanism which triggers the CDL switch thats the bit thats got me why does the CDL work on the key but not on the cill button as from what I understand they both operate the same CDL button

It sounds like you are not getting enough movement with the linkage when you press the sill button down, where as you are getting enough movement when you turn the key. Can you assist the cdl linkage by pulling down the arm that the sill button linkage attaches to?. But you are correct that turning the key and pushing the sill button both activate the cdl switch

I am going to strip it out when it stops raining I have a second one which doesnt work so am hoping that between them I can make a good one thanks for your help will let you know how i get on

Interestingly had a look this morning and drivers door will lock on sill button if the door is open so it opens and activates central locking with the key open or closed and the sill button only when open so logic says it is not wiring as it works on the key so must be some sort of movement restriction or am I going bonkers

No u are not going bonkers yet. Agree it does not sound electrical. Does the sill button go further down when door is open compared with when closed?. With door open and the latch moved over to the door closed position (use pencil or screwdriver to move pawl)do you get the same problem as door actually closed?. As conclusion is not electrical then it's either the cams in the latch or the linkage for the CDL switch.

glad you agree with me on this haha will have another go prob not till Monday as on a dark weekend moving monitors and recabling the av suites for 3d transmission this weekend long long days but will have a go on Monday
