Last night took a trip to get some supplies.....

92 def 110

On the way back plunged into darkness.... side/main lights stopped working (everything on the stalk)... I managed to get to a pull in using flashing full beam with a manual flick so not to blind all (blue) everything else wasn't working from a lights perspective...... then all of a sudden it came back......

10 miles with intermittent....Any ideas, I assume this may be some switching element somewhere ? Naff stalk switch ?

X 2 happened to me about 6 months ago lights out on a B road pitch black o_O
Full beam only & left foot on the brake for rear lights, switch was at fault. ;)

I've seen these mentioned quite a few times and I'm really tempted. As well as saving the switch is the extra illumination people talk about as noticeable as is claimed?

I made my own loom , from battery to lights. But basically the same thing, Yes it did make a big difference.

Alternatively you can replace all the connections ,wires and switches on the original stuff and see if that improves things....but then the switch is the failure point.

Cheers

Cheers, neilly. The headlight brightness isn't too bad and my Mrs reckons they're better than my Mondeo. I'm not convinced and suspect the higher driving position helps her avoid glare from oncoming vehicles. I've put the 'nightbreaker' bulbs in a while back as recommended by folk on LZ. I'm presuming that boomslang loom is easy to fit. Having done one yourself do you think it will be?

As I say I did my own, and I made it plug and play. Then I found out about the boomslang..LOL. but knowing a few who have used the boomslang , they say it is easy enough. Well worth the money IMHO.

Cheers

@Al2O3

If you look here you will see the post I made, plus links to others, it seems to get ( search boomslang , and get 2 pages of hits) mentioned quite often and no one ever says, "well that was a waste of time".

Cheers, neilly. This has been in the back of my mind for a while now. I'm convinced it is a worthwhile upgrade, so I'll get one ordered. If I get stuck with it I know where to come for help. ;)

I just ordered both :)

I had to leave a poor lady stuck on a hill yesterday as I couldn't risk recovering as the lights had gone and I though it would be silly with a dodgy set of lights to consider getting out and trying to sort her out.

Naff stalk switch ?

Yep! It's what them pesky switches do

Did the boomslang mod to SWMBO's D1 - headlights transformed - almost like going from dim dip setting to the normal dip setting = deffo worth doing. The loom is nicely made, and the ceramic connectors are a step in the right direction too IMHO. If you add a relay into the main feed to the loom, which is switched by an ignition live feed - then your headlights go orft with the ignition too ;) - we're posh 'ere, we is :D

Having done one yourself do you think it will be?

If it takes more than an hour, drink less tea whilst doing the job :D

Always worth keeping 10 odd feet of single core wire and some terminals in your car, that way you can run a wire direct from the battery to headlamps to get you home, I had to do this on my series when the floor switch threw a sulky, it made it the 120 miles home.

That's a good shout actually..... can be used for anything.

Boomslag is about £30 delivered - a job for the spring with @gstuart :D

no worries, shame with that loom u have to cut a hole in the plastic headlight protection cover to get the boomslang loom in neat and tidy onto the back of the headlight

PS , what’s a boomslag, lol
