hello chaps, procrastination time for me!

I have light guards on my p38 (i am not a fan of them at all, if i could remove them i would but the holes look worse!)

what can i do to stop them looking grey and crappy, they are letting down the looks to be honest.

I'm not spending hundreds on new ones (that needs to be saved for repairs), i have tried the hardcore black stuff (worked a treat on the bumper, really recommend it, still looks good now) but alas to no avail on the guards,

spray them matte black? find a heat gun? remove them and put chrome LED's in the holes left behind? buy huge distracting chrome wheels so they make the rest of the car look normal? (two of those answers are not an option just in case we have comedians)

any help would be great

cheers tommy

Get yourself Forever Black Bumper & Trim restorer. A bunch of us here on the forum used it to good effect on the radiator grill. I also used it on my light guards. It works very well. I think I got mine from ebay for about £16.

think that is the only option, don't want shiny black (ill never match the blue either) so any recommendations, plastikote or the like?

cheers for the help

If they're just dull and not peeling then I'd wash them with something to degrease them and then paint with a satin finish black spray paint.

I lightly sanded mine, got a tin of mat black spray from the motor factors and they came up a treat

and if you want to be extra about it:D if the paint on the light gards is not chiped up. then lightly sand and give a good clean. go over them with a lot of primer.give a little rub with a bit of wet and dry. clean and add your paint very slow.and walaaaaaaa beautiful and good for another 10 years:D:D

cheers fella, painting seems to be the option, just need to find the time!

bought a replacement rear left outer guard as it turns out mine looked a bit wonky as it had been fitted with a rear right guard from the factory, oh don't you just love it, its a wonder how the damn things run sometimes!

It might be worth getting a quote for powder coating them if you have anywhere local that does small runs of coating - small components can be surprisingly cheap to do, and my guess is they were powder coated originally
