Hi all, Im lookinging at putting a light bar on my defender but wanted to know what are the best lights or good ones?, has anyone got any X-Lights on as they look ok? I was going to make my light bar but where can you get a very good one from?

A previous thread discusses roof bar lights....http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/glare-windscreen-69753.html... this may help.
I know Paddocks do a roof bar/lights kit with 4 wipac lights for £85 plus vat and free standard delivery.
As a matter of interest (I have no experience re roof lights) would you use them to add aditional light to the extra driving lights you have fitted to your A bar? Or to add a wider illuminated area?

1 pair of fogs for the width & 1 pair of driving lamps for distance seems to be the preferred option. X lights are ok but they're bloody expensive for 4 bits of tube with a bulb wedged in them.

Yes you are right they are expensive, I have been given 4 wipac fog lights for £20.00 if I like new. so this may be my option. has anyone got a template od the light bar ends that I could use as I have a 50mm tube Y just a thought.

i have 4 roof bar lights that produce a pencil beam light that goes a very long way..
the prob i had with the previous rectangular standard lights that they were great if you wanted to light up your bonnet and about ten foot in front of you, it soon annoyed the hell outta me thats why i swapped to the different lights

They're just a piece of flat plate bout 6" at the bottom. With the bottom bent over where it sits in the roof gutter and tapering in at the top where the cross bar welds on. Yu just need to decide how high you want it.

of these spot lights are Hella comet which are on ebay for £95.00 and are boxed so what do you think, I am after distance as well?

Apologies for reviving an old thread - but it came up in a search and seemed to be the most appropriate place to ask my question.

My 90 came with a roof bar and four of the standard Wipac square spotlights - as mentioned above, they're pretty good at illuminating the bonnet, and annoying the driver (me). When I discovered how badly the wiring had been done (no relays, just straight off the stalk!) I removed the lot anyway.

Now I'm re-doing all the wiring for ancilliaries properly, I'd quite like to fit some roof lights again. But what to get? I was thinking of the outside pair coming on with dipped beam and the middle pair coming on with main beam. This would obviously require different beam patterns to avoid blinding people.

I have searched (honestly!) but haven't managed to come up with much in the way of genuine recommendations. So, over to you...

Ian.

i bought an alloy light bar :D was only a tenner more than the steel one so was rude not too:p as for lights i never had a problem with normal rectangle 55w ones they do light up all inside as already said :p but its illegal to use them on the road and i find them ace for green laning (as it lights up all inside) oh and my landies red :D

they have to be independant of the headlamps or Mot man will fail it come mot time and plod will nick yu for blinding people.
Yup - done that. All extra lights have switches on the dash too. Surely having extra "driving lights" isn't illegal is it? I've had other cars with front lights that were in addition to dipped beam. I've got Wipac spots on the A-bar, but I find I'm plunged into darkness when I go to dipped beam.

ye you can have those wired to full beam i use my bonnet pod on the road :D
but a light bar is above the legal height as im aware
